Prussian King William I accepted the title of Emperor of Germany in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles on Jan. 18, 1871. This was a humiliation to the French, who were still fighting the Franco-Prussian War. Although the empire lasted less than half a century, it changed the course of European history by unifying 26 German states. These coins were struck during the World War I Era.
This set was assembled to mark the 150th anniversary of the German Empire.
The empire was replaced by a republic at the end of World War I.
Both coins were struck from .900 fine silver.
The 1/2 Mark weighs 2.77 g, while the 1 Mark weighs 5.55 g.
The 1/2 Mark was struck sometime from 1905-1919, while the 1 Mark coin was struck in 1914 or 1915.
The German government ordered many silver coins to be melted to support the country's efforts in World War I.
The coins in this set will be in either Almost Uncirculated or Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
Powerful Imperial Eagle Design
The two coins in this set share very similar designs. Obverse: The face value of each coin, "1/2 MARK" or "1 MARK," is at the center of the obverse. It is encircled by an open wreath. "DEUTSCHES REICH" is inscribed at the top along the rim, while the coin's respective date is at the bottom.
Reverse: On the reverse is an imperial eagle, which spreads its wings and has a crown on its head. The bird also has a shield on its breast. The eagle is encircled by a wreath on the 1/2 Mark but not on the 1 Mark.
Beautifully Preserved AU to BU
The coins in this set will be in Almost Uncirculated to Brilliant Uncirculated condition. AU coins show slight wear, while BU coins lack any. Given that many of these coins were melted to support Germany's war effort, these coins are in remarkable condition.

Purchases of Bullion Items may not be returned or cancelled for any reason, at any time, but in the event of a manufacturer's defect; it may be exchanged for the same item, within the Company's sole discretion, if otherwise available. In addition to Bullion Items, there are other items from time to time which may not be returned or cancelled for any reason. If the product has been altered, is not in its original coin capsule, or is otherwise in an unsaleable condition, the product will not be accepted for return or exchange. All documents and bonus items included with the product must also be returned. If the product is not returned with all original packaging and bonus items, is incomplete, or is returned after the 30-day return period, the Company reserves the right not to accept the return or to accept the return subject to a 20% restocking fee, in the Company's sole discretion. All returns with a purchase price over 0 must include a Return Authorization Number. Refunds of non-bullion items are for the cost of product only; shipping and handling charges are not refundable, unless otherwise stated by Company.
