    Description

"The Thistle and the Jade. A Celebration of 150 Years of Jardine, Matheson & Co."
Edited by Maggie Keswick. Published in London by Octopus Books in 1982.
    DISCUSSION:
Jardine, Matheson & Co. was founded in Canton in 1832, and has been a major player in the Chinese export trade ever since. This company-sponsored 150th birthday book features a wealth of information on the 19th century history of the company and its export trade and business in China (and some in Japan), illustrated with period art and documents. There's a also a bunch of 20th-century related material, but if you aren't interested, you have our permission to ignore it.
Hardcover. 9.5"x11.5", 272 pages, color and black & white illustrations, dust jacket. Light wear, front hinge ever so slightly loose.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR OVERSEAS BUYERS, PLEASE NOTE:
SHIPPING: To comply with Ebay’s policies, all packages are shipped using recorded/trackable methods and you should check the postage quotes before completing a purchase. Our International shipping charges are based on the weight, when packed, of each package -we offer “combined shipping charges” for orders for more than one item –this often means the shipping cost for the items is less than it would have been if they had been purchased and shipped one at a time, so please ask us for a shipping quote if you are thinking about buying more than one item. Thanks!
CUSTOMS CHARGES: Your post office may impose a customs charge on your incoming package, we have no control over this and no information about it, please check with your post office for more information. It is against U.S. law and Ebay rules for us to lie on the customs form about the value of packages, please do not ask us to do this.
